All of the Mosaic pieces you see displayed in this web site are my original designs. My passion for mosaics began as a result of my own life feeling fractured and broken. My mother and my two sons had gone to one of those you paint it pottery places where they also had lazy susan trays and mosaic tiles. We had such an enjoyable time and even my youngest son who was 4 at the time was able to participate. I was hooked and started searching on line for anything about mosaics. I am so thankful to the many mosaic artist who took the time to explain the process of various mosaic techniques. I checked out many different suppliers of tools and tiles and ordered from two different places. While I waited for my orders to arrive - I had fun collecting and smashing plates - I still need to use those sometime. It was great therapy. When my boxes arrived we touched sorted all the little bags of colored tiles and cathedral glass. I eventually got brave enough to start on the Chicken Candle Vase. I then found a box of stained glass at a thrift store and took it home and looked at it and wondered how best to make it into something usable. Since I did not have a glass cutter I decided I had nothing to loose and tried using just the glass nippers. It worked and I started trying to shape the glass into pebbles and teardrops. I loved how it expanded my color options, I could almost paint with the pieces of broken glass. That started the Waiting Angel and I have not had a chance to get back to the original tiles but I will eventually - we waste nothing - even the tiny chips look beautiful in decorator bottles.
Somehow in the creation of each mosaic I found hope. As I glued bits and pieces of broken glass and tile I was reminded that God, the greatest creator and artist was taking my broken life, chipping off the unusable parts and putting it back together in a new way.
I have found In art and in life, it all starts by looking at things just a little differently. One must not focus so much on the cause of the broken-ness but see the potential created by each broken piece.
Working on mosaics is a long process and in that too I have hope. My own transformation has not happened over night but has been and continues to be a long process that requires faith and patience. Where ever you are on your journey, it is my hope that you will find inspiration in these pieces and allow Jesus to take your broken heart and life and turn it into his work of art.
